Leigh Horowitz: Portfolio

Dream 1
I am a woman in a gold lame bathing suit. It’s a one piece, with high cut legs. It covers my head like an extra long turtleneck would. My hair flows down from over the top of the suit. There is a bushy coral colored flower on top nestled in my hair. I am floating on a generic blow up light blue pool raft on a south beach aqua pool. It is sensationally bright out. Someone or something out of view gives me a push and I go on forever. I feel the inertia and the force simultaneously but not the hot sun.
Dream 6
I wake up. I’m getting ready. I’m in rush to meet my friends. To my surprise beautiful furry lush tropical flowers start growing out of my head. They sprout one at a time continually one after another. The flowers are light pink, cream, mint, dozens of beautiful pastel colors. I am so in love with them but consequently I start frantically cutting them so I am not late. I am sad to be cutting these flowers. I cannot fully enjoy them because I have to cut them. Simultaneously I feel like the most special person in the world. I know that no one will understand I have this condition. Rationally I know it doesn’t exist. But it does because it is happening to me. The flowers keep growing and growing each one is bigger furrier and more magical. The stems grow fatter and fatter and longer and longer. I can feel how fuzzy they are so clearly. I can’t stop them. I never leave the mirror because they just keep growing and growing.
Dream 9
I walk into a traditional 50’s Norman Rockwell diner. Everything is red and white with silver trim and cleaner than the dentist’s office. Directly in front of me is the bar where people would normally eat. Sitting on top of it there are five big white and red bowls with silver trim. In the bowls are big red spoons with silver trim. All of the spoon handles are pointing to the right. It is all very sterile. I pan the diner slowly. No food no help no people. I stand in the same spot, I never eat I never see anybody.
Dream 13
I open the fridge to find 15-20 individually foil wrapped sets of three spare ribs that look like wrapped pork chops standing on their sides. A shelf up and over to the left is a toilet cleaning brush covered in BBQ sauce. It wasn’t disgusting just odd but not surprising. I know my friend bought the toilet bowl brush specifically for the BBQ sauce. I put some eggs on the pan and a flame shot up 3 feet from the frying pan. On the small narrow island counter there was an empty pizza box with the cardboard cheese from many pizzas saved. My large green-eyed hairless boyfriend and good Jewish friend Andrew are getting ready in a large relatively skuzzy empty dorm like bathroom that seems to be outside. Andrew has a miniature shark and wants to show me what it felt like when it bit my foot. Strictly for scientific purposes. It bit my toe. I looked at it in the eye, really I watched its teeth. They are long and skinny and not very sharp for a shark I think. With the mini shark on my toe I run from the huge dorm bathroom to the indoor significantly smaller powder room. Andrew wrestles with the mini shark it was quite dramatic like the shark weighs three or four hundred pounds when really it was three or four pounds. All of the sudden the shark bites him so my toe is free. I ran into the bathroom and locked the door. I am breathing heavy. I rest my hands on the sink and take a breath. I feel relaxed. Then I open the door because Andrew calls “Leigh check this out.” I open the door and there is a freaking glowing king crab the size of a car coming towards me. I am so scared but it is so beautiful I can not shut the door.
